Patterns Seminar with Kwan Jang Nim Cariati January 27th/28th, 2012
What a fantastic weekend as
over one hundred students participated in Kwan Jang Nim Cariati’s
pattern seminar. The weekend commenced with a 3 hour Instructor's
session on Friday night followed by the main event all day Saturday.
Kwan Jang Nim’s vast experience provided students with answers to all
the not fully understood techniques, especially those areas that were
never recorded by the founder.
Ms. Couture provided the article below for the official ICTF site.
On January 28, 2012, over 100 eager students gathered in Fall River, Nova Scotia excited to be receiving pattern instruction from Kwan Jang Nim Cariati. They represented local dojangs including Fall River Taekwon-do, Carr Taekwon-Do, Blue Taekwon-Do, Muise Taekwon-Do, LeBlanc Taekwon-Do, Stewart Taekwon-Do and Mr. McAvoy from the White Tigers in New Brunswick.
The students were not disappointed. The action-packed sessions left students feeling grateful, confident in their new skills, and maybe even a bit tuckered out.
To ensure personal attention, the full day event was divided into three sessions: white belt to green stripe, green belt to red stripe, and red belt and above. Master Cariati further broke these sessions into pattern-specific groups. Head instructors from the participating dojangs then focused on each group, leading them through the intricacies of their patterns. This educational format allowed the students take advantage of different teaching methods and styles. To enhance this experience, Master Cariati travelled between the groups offering instruction, correction, and encouragement. Many groups had the privilege of Master Cariati leading them step-by-step through their patterns.
For many it was their first time meeting Master Cariati. It is immediately obvious that Master Cariati is very approachable. He patiently responded to questions with descriptions and demonstrations ensuring that all understood. He was free with compliments where they were deserved and presented correction in a positive, non-threatening manner. He took the time necessary to make the students feel comfortable and ready to learn.
The day ended with Kwan Jang Nim Cariati announcing that during the weekend he had successfully tested the following: Mr. Darren MacLeod to 4th Dan, Mr. Kevin Cull to 3rd Dan and Mr. Devin Boudreau to 3rd Dan. Congratulations gentlemen, well deserved.
An amazing day!
Special thanks to Mr. Stoerig of Fall River Taekwon-Do for all the hard work that it takes to pull together an event like this and to Kwan Jang Nim Cariati for generously sharing his knowledge and experience.

Seminar with Master Cariati September 18th, 2010
Dear ICTF,

The weekend commenced Friday with an in-depth Instructor technical training and grading session in which Mr. Blue earned his 4th Dan and Mr. Carr his 6th Dan, congratulations sirs. This focus continued into Saturday's seminar where Kwan Jang Nim Cariati provided all Students and Instructors new insight and appreciation of all aspects of our fundamental movements, giving explanation to and improving our patterns and self defence/sparring. As before, smiles filled the room as participants experienced Kwan Jang Nim's rigorous and intense training in a totally enjoyable atmosphere. Every student was able to become directly involved in the seminar whether through demonstration or by simply asking questions.

Seminar Comments
*From a nine year old Yellow Stripe - "It was amazing to meet Mr Cariati, and I learned so much".
*Dear Master Cariati We just wanted to share our appreciation for such a brilliant seminar on technical information pertaining to the ICTF and General Choi's vision... Last year we had the privilege of attending your first seminar here on the east coast after just joining the ICTF. We all found your method of sharing information not only informative, but also relaxed and open minded. It is always more conducive to learn in an atmosphere that helps the student feel like it is a safe venue in which to ask questions freely without judgment or criticism.. NONE of us felt intimidated quite the opposite in fact, some folks volunteer more readily than others but that does not mean they do not wish to demonstrate their abilities and you make it safe always to do so... Thank you for that. Each year you visit the east coast you will see familiar faces along with new ones but please know we are so grateful for you time, enthusiasm , knowledge and patience.. On another note as students of Fall River Taekwon-do we all appreciate you acknowledging our instructor Mr. Stoerig. He has been our leader, our teacher and our friend... He personifies Taekwon-Do and General Choi's belief system. In closing, thank you so much again for your time this weekend past, we all enjoyed seeing you again and look forward to our next training opportunity.. Some of us discussed a possible road trip this spring to perhaps take in one of your classes. All the very best

Referee Course/Technical Seminar April 3rd, 2010
(left to right: Mr. LeBlanc, Kwan Jang Nim J. Cariati VIII Dan, Master C. Stanley VIII Dan, Mr. Stoerig)
Dear Kwan Jang Nim Cariati & Master Stanley,
Referee Course/Technical Seminar, Vaughan ON, Saturday April 3rd.
In attendance: Grand Masters and Masters: GM A. Gabbidon, GM R. Parris, Kwan Jang Nim J. Cariati VIII Dan, Master C. Stanley VIII Dan, Master S. Creighton, Master A. Scarsellone and Master R. MacEachern.
To sum up the "Referee Course/Technical Seminar" in one word……Outstanding!
Mr. LeBlanc and I arrived from Nova Scotia and were treated to a day of unsurpassed technical knowledge coupled with superb instruction. In the "Technical Seminar" we were amazed to experience the Grand Master and Masters interact with all levels of students, imparting their technical expertise through demonstration and dialogue. As usual with the ICTF, there was an extremely friendly, open and enjoyable atmosphere enabling students to freely ask questions of the seniors and to have fun learning. Regarding the "Referee Course", Master Stanley provided an excellent curriculum, comprised of a valuable training/resource manual including DVD, visual aids and physical interaction. The ICTF atmosphere was very apparent here as well, allowing students to enter into open discussion, so all in attendance were given a clear understanding of the rules and procedures.
Sirs, once again the ICTF has proven itself to be heads above the others. Prior to joining the ICTF, Mr. LeBlanc and I had never experienced the support, openness and the welcome and willingness of its members, including Grand Master, Master and Instructor, to help one another. This is truly an organization built on teaching the moral and social values of Taekwon-Do. We look forward to participating in more ICTF events and encourage others to experience what we have over the last few months.
On a personal note I'd like to thank Mrs. Siri Thompson, VI Dan, who spent time with me fine tuning my patterns, thank you Ma'am your time was greatly appreciated.
Yours in Taekwon-Do, Mr. Bill Stoerig, V Dan Mr. Rob LeBlanc III Dan

Seminar with Master Cariati January 31st, 2010
On Saturday, January 30th, we had the honour and privilege of welcoming Master Cariati to Halifax for the first invitational ICTF seminar held in Nova Scotia. The seminar was comprised of two sessions, 11 years and under and 12 years and above. Topics were: patterns, sparring techniques, self defence and body condition. Master Cariati's vast experience, expertise and excellent teaching skills revitalized the over 100 participants from both the ICTF and the CTFI/ITF. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed the intense knowledge packed sessions, gaining new insight and understanding of the techniques developed by the founder of Ch'ang-Hon Taekwon-Do, General Choi.
We would also like to mention that Master Cariati and this event cemented an already firm bond with the ICTF's newest members in Nova Scotia: Mr. Carr from Carr Taekwon-Do and Mr. Blue from Blue Taekwon-Do. The Students and Instructors are now a close knit family and eagerly look forward to their future with the ICTF.
All belt levels and all ages have been motivated and inspired; a new standard has been set.
Thank you again Kwan Jang Nim Cariati.
Mr. Bill Stoerig, 5th Dan, Fall River Taekwon-Do Mr. Robert LeBlanc, 3rd Dan, LeBlanc Taekwon-Do and Fitness Centre
Seminar Comments
*The seminar was very informative. I really enjoyed
learning all of the new combinations and techniques. My
knuckles are still in a very large amount of pain
however.
*It was amazing to meet Master Cariati and spend a day with him. His demonstrated technical expertise, moral and historical insight and easy going mannerisms made it a day to remember for all, in spite of the additional "ouch" conditioning of the forearms and shins. The day went by way too quickly and I hope he returns soon.
*The seminar was very good exposure for all levels and all ages. I learned a lot.
*February 1, 2010 *What a fabulous seminar and what an outstanding human being Master Cariati is. He stands for all that is good in the world and is a great leader and teacher.
*Dear Mr. Stoerig, Please pass on my thanks to Master Cariati for the terrific seminar last weekend. My daughter attended the afternoon session and I watched from the sidelines for most of it. I was impressed with the one-on-one interaction between Master Cariati and the students throughout the afternoon and also the light-hearted atmosphere in the room. It was easy to see that everyone enjoyed being there and when the session ran longer than planned, they all welcomed the extra time with him. Our thanks to you and Mr. LeBlanc for making this event possible and we look forward to attending all future seminars or events that you organize.
